Liverpool Street Chop House & Tavern, When Rebranding Works

Last week I visited what many will remember as New Street Grill and Old Bengal Bar, both previously operated under D&D London before the group evolved into Evolv Collection.

The space has now been transformed into Liverpool Street Chop House & Tavern, and I have to admit, they’ve done an impressive job.

This is a reminder that sometimes hospitality doesn’t need a revolutionary concept. Sometimes, thoughtful rebranding, a well-executed refurbishment, and a clearer identity are enough to completely shift the perception of a venue.

The new space feels warmer, simpler, and far more approachable than its predecessor. It feels less corporate and far more in tune with what people actually want from a casual lunch or after-work drink.

We visited just before the office rush and had a genuinely enjoyable late lunch: a delicious burger for me, alongside a few strong vegetarian options for my partner. The atmosphere felt relaxed, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu.

But what really stood out happened when we were leaving.

The area that was once Old Bengal Bar, particularly the outdoor space, was packed with people.

And that genuinely surprised me.

Having worked for the previous company for five years, I had never seen that part of the venue so busy.

That moment said more than the refurbishment ever could.

It felt refreshing to see a business succeed through simplicity: good food, an inviting atmosphere and a concept people can immediately understand.

In an era where many hospitality venues seem built primarily for social media attention, it was encouraging to see a place thrive by focusing on fundamentals.

Sometimes hospitality doesn’t need reinvention.

Sometimes it just needs clarity.
