The Roundhouse, Still the Same, Still Worth It

I first wrote about this place years ago, before everything paused and the rhythm of hospitality changed. A few weeks ago, I found myself going back almost by instinct.

I want to talk about a pub, I mean somewhere that brings real care and quality into a setting that’s meant to feel effortless.

One of my long-time favourites in London is The Roundhouse, tucked into Vardens Road, at the top of Wandsworth Common. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t try too hard yet consistently delivers food that feels considered and well executed.

I’ve been there several times over the years, and what struck me on this recent visit is how little it has changed in the ways that matter.

I still remember the first time I came here, I had one of the best burgers I’d eaten at the time and came back for Fish & Chips.

The fish and chips remain the real benchmark. Crisp, balanced, and executed with a level of care that’s easy to overlook but difficult to replicate. To this day, I still consider it among the best in London, if not the best.

There’s something reassuring about places like this. In a city that constantly shifts, they hold their ground quietly by doing things properly.

If you’re looking for somewhere to spend an evening with friends, this is exactly that kind of place: good food, a relaxed atmosphere, and a sense of continuity that feels increasingly rare.
